Based on my small knowledge about this matter but here are some reason why 1. They just like that trope 2. One of bl biggest selling points is the sex scene. Huh I think you got trope and genre confused. Powerful mc is a trope, dungeon and omegaverse is a subgenre. I mean common male targeted genres would be shounen, action, mecha, seinen or sports and it has much to offer as other genres does. I love highschool/college trope because its just such a youthful trope. Reading them youngster being dumb and in love is just cute. Im reading for the characters story.
