If you read/watch mostly shounen, specially harem, then it's true. They must think that's the ideal type for most guys. If you try other genres, mainly seinen or josei, then it's only a minority.
You should try other types.

No one in my family knows and I prefer it that way. It's not like they're conservative or extreme religious, they're open minded people. But I'd find it very weird.

If you don't mind trying something that doesn't involve medication...
At least for pimples (I'm not sure wether it will work with acne) you can try using tea tree oil, or at least products that have tea tree oil. It's a more natural solution, ideal if you have sensitive skin.
