It's probably not so clear cut as she makes it. It really depends on the situation and the context. Here's a counter-example: if you like spicy food and found a spicy dish to be very tasty, and everybody else around you hate spicy food and found the same dish not to their taste, does that suddenly make the dish tastes bad to you? When you say x and y VALUES for these 2 PROBLEMS, do you mean find a set of values for (x, y) for each? You'd probably want to draw a line for each equation: y = -8x is a straight line with negative slope that passes through (0, 0) and (1, -8). y - 8 = -x is a straight line with a negative slope that passes through (0, 8) and (1, 7).
