I’ve made a book club of about 15 people so far centered around stories found on Mangago. We're doing weekly stories to read together, I'm posting daily story recommendations (mainly bl), and you can ask for recommendations in general. This week is Monster and the Beast and you can vote for next week's story.

It's not a hot or cold take, but lukewarm. For example: harada makes mediocre stories carried by decent art and shock factor, authors like Asada or Akabeko cover similar ground but with actual substance behind the distracting shock.

Okay lets do this; both the MC and douchebag in 10 years where I loved you most, the twink from Jinx, and pretty much any other bottoms

You have fifteen second to assert your dominance and show you truly are the alpha you know yourself to be. How would you do that to a frail, old woman?

I’ve been thinking for a while about how a lot of major mangago discord servers don’t have much to do with manga. Would people be interested in essentially a book club for mangago? If so, click here https://discord.gg/AtheMfh7 .

I feel one shots are underappreciated and overlooked, when I think there's a subtle art to them, so I just wanna see some love for them.

These blurry sons of bitches are just there to plainly state what's happening through their *murmurs* and *whispers*, either to drive home that the random drunk that harassed the mc was totally owned by the ml, or that the mc is at risk of social suicide by being accused of something incredibly petty until the ml comes to save the day and totally owns the random asshat.

Ha! You thought this was gonna be about rape. No this is a rant about how people write paragraphs defending fictional characters in bl or manhwas. Like why are putting in the effort to defend a character because they had a traumatic backstory when that traumatic backstory is pretty much just there to make you pity the character in a play out attempt to add depth to characters?

I know this is a godless site, but there are some overlooked wholesome moments...right?

Does anyone else feel like a lot of the bls (especially manhwas) held up as having a "good plot" really just default to generic tropes from their genres? Like a certain zombie story having zones and a brilliant scientist uncovering a conspiracy, a certain psychological having a main character whose main motivation is an evil step mother, that sort of thing?

I made a tier list of a bunch of manhwas, almost exclusively bl, and I just thought I'd share a link to it in case people want to do it themselves. https://tiermaker.com/create/manhwas-17338829?presentationMode=true

I feel like a lot of authors want to have their cake and eat it when it comes to tones and themes, and it just doesn't work most the time. Like there will be a light fluffy story and the it turns out there was a rape backstory, or there's a dark psychological but with wacky moments. If its a good author, they might be able to get away with it, but if it's something under 12 chapters, it fails of most of the time and one casts a shadow over the other. And I think shows a lack of confidence to be unable to just stick to one idea and commit to it.

I swear to christ, every day there's at least one comment or discussion talking about rape. I get it, it's a hot button issue, but please can we have ONE day that doesn't circle back to atrocities. Sometimes it's not even the OP's fault, it'll just get brought up and it'll be pretty much the same discussion over and over again. I'm not saying we shouldn't talk about it, but I just wanna geek out about manga and want to be reminded of horrific atrocities every time I look at the forums

I've read a shit ton of bl, not as much as others but still more then average. I've come to realize that with bls, the ultimate purpose of the plot is to serve as a device to establish the relationship and dynamic between the ml and mc. In that sense, story itself in bl is a plot device. Some do have a comprehensive storyline, but they are usually still there to establish and explain the characters.

You know how, after Lennie accidentally snaps that women's fucking neck, George tells him to think of the bunny farm so he'd be happy in his last moments before George shoots him in the head? What would be your bunny farm?

You ever read a decent or even good manhwa or manga that just takes a turn that absolutely decimates any goodwill it built up through one scene or storyline?

Stories that started off strong but just didn't maintain their appeal. The most notable example I'd say is Cherry Blossoms After Winter, with the hard shift to basically a pornhwa.

You ever been talking with your uncle and he reveals some weird piece if lore that doesn't make sense but is somehow true? Like how they drink energy drinks to go to bed or how they somehow own a sword from the Knights of Columbus?

Is it just me, or is there a weird amount of pedo side missions in high school stories? Like real fucking out there shit like a weird kink the teacher has and it always fuck up the tone of the rest of the story. And doesn't actually have that big an impact on the plot, but it certainly leaves an impact on the reader.
