I've experienced this a lot with my friend M, and them vice versa. We didn't know the other thought the same until we started arguing one day and it all spilled out. Personally I'd rather choose the first one. If (hypothetically) both parted on bad terms but person A hasn't said anything about person B, it's kinda bitter of person B to go around airing the dirty laundry when you can just shut up and avoid further conflict.
