Just say w/w romance OR queer romance. That generally doesn't get any sort of silent reaction from people when I recommend them BL or GL. Yuri and Yaoi are known to be smut genres, so that could immediately put people off before even giving it a try. Just give them a heads up that the story would have explicit scenes.

Depends on the genre. Psychological thrillers are usually pretty fresh with their plotlines, you would need to be because you can't keep your audience engaged otherwise.
As far as romance goes, I am fine with most tropes with the exception of the fuckboy tropes and the toxic ones. I don't get bored as long as the couple is cute.
