YES! It (it referring to yaoi/BL/shounen-ai) may be fictional but a lot of it's contents are actually based on reality, if people haven't noticed. There's so much reference to reality. If it weren't for my friends, I'd seriously be loner haha when I have classes where none of my friends are in it, I wouldn't bother talking to anyone unless it becomes necessary (like asking questions about the class and stuff). Both, actually. Positive impact is learning a lot of things that I actually don't learn IRL. Stuff about how workplace scenarios take place, about dealing with issues about yourself, your family, your dreams, etc. Relating to the characters gives me comfort because it's not just happening to me, or I'm not the only person going through something. NO! Plot-wise, a lot of yaoi stories are good that you'd want to re-read them a lot of times. And the fact that BL authors never run out of new ideas for their works is amazing. Yes it's double standard. A lot of yaoi fans has this double standard in the real world. Somehow I think I'm a bit guilty about it because I read yaoi a lot but in the real world, I cannot easily get super comfortable with gay people being really affectionate with each other.
