We shouldn't compare traumas, but my situation severely undermines everyone elses'. My dad died when I was 8 and my mom had depression and I took care of my younger brother for 2-3 years.

I'm slow when it comes to boring parts too, probably because it doesn't interest you. I would try reading it to yourself like you're explaining to another person, that usually helps with my case. Good luck with your assignments! You got this! :)
