If you want to remain friends with him, then do your best. Whether it's actually stopping or lie to him. I think it isnt that big of a deal anyway. I lied to a lot of people about this too. I told them i only read shounen mangas but i actually read BL. Everyone has secrets at some point. This is just my opinion though.
