Quality read metrics?
Does anyone have a flowchart of what they look for to decide whether to read/not read something? Or drop something?
Here's some of my categories:
Drop if:
1. There is any mention of a 'lazy lifestyle' or similar in the title
2. If there is any mention of the premise of the story mentioning the characters by role (i.e, protagonist, villain, side character) unless the premise is _really_ bat shit crazy
3. If smut/yaoi/yuri - go to the 13th page of 2 random chapters for web comics, 25th page of similar chapter sampling for manga (or eyeball 2 chapters - not the first 2 - for lewd). If there's lewd, the whole thing has a very high likelyhood of being lewd.
4. If non-complete power fantasy or shonen harem, avoid - those things can stretch to infinity
5. If the art is so bad it causes brain damage (has to be specifically cringe, misshapen or overly pretty/gritty/lewd art - I don't mind the art being like Mob Psycho)
6. If the front page needs to be censored from children - that's not for casual reading, that's for horny.
7. If it's one of those yaoi manhwa that's got the comment section frothing at the mouth about non-con
8. If the title otherwise spells out the plot or premise of the plot, especially in first person.
One thing that _does_ work in favor of any work is if it's tagged horror. or fantasy. or supernatural.
For me, if it's 'system' related i drop it immediately. i want protagonists to act as they are even if it's fkn annoying at times, at lest they're being true to themselves. or if it's isekai and they reveal that they're not fron that world/era, it loses its appeal because if protagonist reveals they're not from that era but act as if she's been the......
