Compassion

Recently in the last month or so I began working more closely with a lead in the team I’m in at work and it really surprised me just how compassionate he was. He was friendly, understanding, and communicated with confidence and respect no matter what.
For example, we work with another team whose manager is very demanding and blames people easily. During one instance in a meeting with them, we got blamed for something I felt did not need to be blown to the proportion it was, I was frozen in fear because the tone was so accusatory and angry. The lead took over (it was just the two of us from our team in that meeting) and answered with tact and a reassuring tone. I forget what exactly he said but he worked his magic and we were not in the red anymore.
He never seems annoyed at me for asking stupid questions and I know they are stupid cuz I sometimes realize the answer like two seconds after I ask. His tone is always friendly, encouraging, and respectful. I guess Im just in shock that someone in a leadership position could also be so understanding. He’s kind but he’s no pushover either. Ive always thought that only weak people were kind but he wasn’t weak.
It isn’t just me who noticed either. One team member moved to a different team but in an open letter he thanked the lead for his compassion. Another team member mentioned to the lead that he admires his leadership.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this story because I wish more people could be kind like him. He’s an oddity for sure, but he left a strong impression on me. I am now striving to be more like him. Confident, understanding, and more compassionate.
