Slavery

Everytime an author decided to make the slave character an antagonist or at least potray them in a bad way, especially in contrast to the rich protagonist, it's a no go for me. This is why I'll never read Remarried Empress. I also dropped Death Is The Only Ending For The Villainess because on how they potrayed Eckles' character, especially compared to the crown prince ML who is treated favorably as the end game for the FL. What do you guys think?

Nobody is entirely good, so its not really a problem for a slave to be portrayed badly. But its very strange to portray a slave as a a villain as if they have any power over their master/s in the first place. Slaves were their owner's property, it is not suprising that they would hate them. They only behaved well because they either feared punishme...... 1 reply

i find it really hard to read stories with systems of slavery nowadays. it wasn’t that long ago that slavery was legal, and in many countries it is still legal, albeit through loopholes. reply

This is my personal opinion but in Death Is The Only Ending For The Villainess, the brother is also seen as a Villain, not just the slave. So, I don't think the author did anything wrong with making the slave character another antagonist when a duke's son is also seen as the bad guy. It was probably the plot twist because I genuinely thought Eckles...... 1 reply

Honestly, I would say majority of historical romance reeks of classicism and colorism. Like the amount of times I have had to drop a manhwa bc they constantly villainize maids, slaves, and brown people and glamorize rich people is very telling. reply

I was also disappointed with Eckles, so you’re not alone!!! But yes, I find Asian comics to be just so wrong about how to handle slavery. you only mentioned shojo, but it’s so much worse in BL and just all erotic comics. Siiiigh Sometimes I can tolerate it because, I have a directors brain, and I treat most of what I read as “suggestion”...... 1 reply
