Yaoi is a lot of fetishising or romanticising unhealthy portrayals of gay relationships (e.g. rape being a way to express your feelings, characters being referred to as 'straight' except for the other character), and as much as it's all 'fiction' it can harmful to the LGBTQ+ community. I've seen people say they wish they were male so they could be......   reply

Wow, I don't usually answer the forum much but that question is interesting (=・ω・=) To be honest, I think any representation is valid. Though it may not always show the best sides of it, Yaoi is still one way to introduce people to gay love. Also, I'm a bit surprised about some of the answers above. tbh? id rather be fetishized than be discriminated against. so if reading yaoi makes ppl allies and/or realize that theyre lgbt i’d choose that over discrimination any day. bt as a part of queer culture? no, not rlly. its mostly made by straight women, so eh.   reply

I read both the book and the movie from CMBYN and the two characters are definitely queer, elio explicitly expresses sexual fluidity and how beauty does not fit in a binary, however due to everything being set in the past, they decide to decline their queerness and live out heteronormative roles. My intentions aren't to defend the book/movie becaus......   reply
