for stories in general (cuz I'm reading like a lot of novels now, too), it's when they introduce a character then all of a sudden casts them aside, as if they never at all existed. I think this happens when the author introduces characters as plot devices rather than an actual people. like in a manhwa for example, they'd dedicate an entire chapter ......
