I am aro/ace but if a man or woman is drawn beautifully, I'll be more inclined to read it. Anyone can read any type of romance, no matter the sexuality presented. What you enjoy reading shouldn't dictate your identity. 2 reply

Not at all, people can enjoy various types of genre without it influencing their sexual orientation. Although i am bi, i haven't liked a man for years. A lot of us read bl for different reasons plot, art, smut, just because and many more reasons. In any case it's really none of their business lol. I think most people who read BL are attracted to men in some way (but that does NOT mean you like them!). I am 100% asexual and aromantic (on a slider from 0 to 100 for sexual and romantic attraction, I'm at 0), but I find men AESTHETICALLY attractive. No it doesn't, I reject that premise wholly. There's not one set reason people read bl, I think trying to retroactively find one is a fool's errand, so having someone trying to use that define your sexuality is ridiculous. reply

I see BL in the same vein as any queer media, or any romance media in general. Consuming it doesn’t necessarily mean you want to self-insert into the plot, but it does show you’re invested in the characters’ relationships and see their conclusions. First off, no, liking BL does not mean you like men. BL is a genre, a form of storytelling, not a reflection of your sexual orientation. You don’t have to jerk off to something to enjoy it, and people pushing that idea are just being reductive. You’re a lesbian because you’re into women, period.
