internalized bigotry

I've grown up in a conservative household, and that has influenced me to some extent. I know logically that there is nothing wrong with men acting feminine. But I still feel an uncomfortable feeling around effeminate men and trans people that don't pass. If anything, I feel guilty, because they would feel awful if someone thought of them that way. Even though I know there isn't anything wrong with it, I can't shake this feeling. I wanted to ask how I could get over it.

yap incoming but tl;dr get into more trans history & media & nonfic books to unfuck your idea of gender (source: personal experience ) anyways. i think genuinely you just need more exposure to media & history to whittle away at the internalized bigotry and normalize these to you. that's what's helped me at least. could focus on stuff from your co...... 2 reply

I don’t think you should feel guilty for thinking this way. Not only do we grow up having society and people around us enforce the gender binary, but especially now there’s also plenty of media and politics specifically telling us that going outside of the binary is wrong.
