Whatever personal opinions we might have, we can’t forget about culture. I’m not condoning how things are, but we tend to want to see things through our own personal culture when in reality manga and anime is primarily aimed at a Japanese audience. There are a lot of things wrong with their worldview, but it’s their worldview and we don’t ......   reply

I totally agree with you. I guess it's because most mangakas/animators are men, and it's no secret most men are still sexist, or else there wouldn't be such inequality in terms of gender nowadays, so these men draw women how they want them to be, or the way they picture them. And the only way they find to "empower" a woman, is to basically turn her......   2 reply

Feminism is barely shown in anime and manga I barely see an anime where women aren't sexually objectified. I sometimes question anime and manga but one manga that doesn't objectify women would be kimetsu no yaiba, it's really good in showing women as equal   1 reply

you are completely right ngl. and anime i can tell you that fits what your saying is "My hero academia", the girls have good personalities and and they're good characters, but their main role is fan service. which is part of the reason when i first started watching anime, i hated where the females (in usual trends) ends up as the damsel in distre......   3 reply

I present the show GINTAMA, where men are groped way more often (especially by other men xD). It's rather about the male body parts sometimes than females. Our main character is very respectful towards women but it's something more like he wouldn't hurt their feelings and wouldn't make sexual advances in an ugly way etc, not that he cannot fight wi......   reply

I feel like it's just the marvel thing all over again it's just so hard to find female characters that are actually authentically female? if that even makes sense- usually makes you hate any female character they introduce, especially love interests which is not so fun because you wish you could look up to a female character   reply

I think that maybe feminism or women empowerment isn't shown as much in Japanese manga or anime is maybe due to the lack of real feminism in Japan in general. That might be a whole discussion in itself. But to discuss anime and manga, I think that maybe we don't really see it too often is because perhaps the audience that the manga and anime are s......   reply

It just depends on the authors. Generally what i've seen is that female authors do manga that goes with your tastes. Clamp is a perfect example with tsubasa chronicle : adventures, romance, but never disrespectful to women. Male author will often sexualize more because : - they want to appeal to a fan base; - they have some interactions/happenings......   reply
