I LOVE HOMOPHOBIA!!!!! …In fiction. It feels soothing to see other characters in a position I can relate to. The self loathing and doubt that accompanies queer attraction, especially. AND YOURE SO RIGHT I NEED QUEER GLS RAAAHHH!!   5 reply

It can be a hurtful reminder of the real world but representation is always important and a good author can portray the pain of experiencing homophobia in a very realistic way. I especially love well written characters that deal with internalised homophobia. I'm not talking about ones who SAs a same-sex character and denies being gay, I'm talking ......   1 reply

I feel like this only applys to yaoi and not general BLs If you went on a site like webtoon youd find lots of heartfelt and deep stories compared to mangago cuz lets bffr yaoi authors arent giving their MLs military grade weapons into their pants to talk about their feeling and struggles in todays society But thats just me idk how true this is   4 reply

It all comes down to how it's portrayed, the context and the readers' tolerance for those types of stuff. Some authors handle serious topics poorly, making it feel offensive rather than raw.   1 reply

Homophobia gives the story a more realistic effect to the stories, and reflects the society today. Since BL is inside the Lgbtq+ community, its only right to also include the discrimination and every hardship they go through just because of their identity. Its not always rainbow and kinky sex after all. I also wish they could portray a lot more h......   2 reply

I’m very much inbetween the whole homophobia part of BL because, when some BL portray homophobia in Eastern Asia it’s usually just to make a “forbidden love” trope, which honestly downplays queer hate and fetishizes homo relationships. But, some BL do spread awareness about homophobia and instead of downplaying it and doing a whole Romeo an......   1 reply

I mean isn't this how it normally is? Not everyone accepts gays or lesbians and tbh I'm totally fine with reading parts where there's homophobia because as I just said that's how the real world normally is. I have seen so many times people cursing the author for showing someone's parents not accepting them or cursing the friends or something for ......   1 reply

First of all “I don’t like seeing it” ≠ “I wish people would stop making it” As a queer person in an asian homophobic country, I really don’t like seeing it and relatively stay away from it. Why? Because I already have to live with it in my day to day life. Like I’m already a fujo who doesn’t regularly read GL because it gives m......   1 reply

i love seeing homophobia addressed in fiction. personally for me to like and fall in love with a story I need it to be relatable and when they show one of the most common experiences a queer person faces, I find it relatable and will end up liking it over a story with all fluff. i do love the idealistic stories but I like the realistic ones more be......   1 reply

i find it odd when stories don’t address or at least allude to homophobia, especially in real world settings. is it handled well? i find it hard to see how it couldn't be, unless the author is implicitly justifying the phobia. i think its weirder when stories that omit homophobia without establishing a specific world building context feel unre......   1 reply
