Comments that you hate seeing in mangago?
I also like for people to not roast me for using seme/uke or bottom/top terms. If I don’t use them, you won’t understand what I’m saying. Using ML (main lead) and MC (main character) is so awkward because sometimes the top is the MC and the bottom is the ML.
“Why is the seme the main character? It feels like I’m reading straight romance,”
or
“Why does the seme always have a harem? It feels like I’m reading straight romance.”
Let me correct that: You don’t dislike it because it feels like straight romance—you dislike it because it feels like the romance is targeted toward men instead of women. God forbid a BL exists that isn’t catering specifically to your tastes. We must project onto the bottom in every BL, right? I always hate comments like that. They’re not real criticism—they’re just people whining that a BL wasn’t made specifically for them or criticizing authors for wanting to explore new ideas or appeal to different audiences.
And,
“I hate the MC/ML for trying to find men on dating apps”
or
“I hate them for having sex with other men who aren’t the MC/ML.”
Mind you, the MC/ML hasn’t even met their romantic interest yet, but people still hate seeing them having prior sexual experiences with other men. I hate these kinds of comments because when will people get tired of the “You’re my first guy” and “I’m not gay” tropes? I think Homophobia plays a huge role in why people hate seeing MC/ML characters with sexual experience.
And,
“Why is the uke a feminine twink? I’m so tired of this trope—men don’t look like that in real life. Make a ‘real man.’”
Mind you, they’re talking about Dan from Jinx. There are men who are feminine like him. These same people never complain about unrealistically masculine men, or about the top always fitting the masculine trope. They only seem to care about heteronormativity when it comes to feminine bottoms.
I hate these comments the most because they can actually hurt real people. I’ve seen a lot of gay men feeling hurt because of these remarks. So, if you’re posting comments like that, I’d really like you to shut up.
