Can you feel pain in your dreams?

There are times when I'm in a dream and I'd be questioning if this is in fact a dream or reality. So to get to the bottom of that, I'd pinch myself, but I'd feel the pain in the dream so   reply

Interesting question. Now this got me wracking my brain. Because I lucid dream a lot and tend to be aware I'm dreaming... I don't recall feeling pain in dreams. At least, not anything worth noting. One time I dreamed about flying and "crashing" onto rocky ground. Didn't hurt, just got back up and continued the dream. Other times I'd fight monsters,......   3 reply

I think it depends. When I want to wake up in a nightmare, I just bite my arm and I don’t feel the pain, but the one instance I felt a little pain when I bite my hand is when I had a sleep paralysis   reply

i have a nightmare that's been recurring over the last few months or so and what wakes me up from it is actually the fact that my head is aching so hard I can no longer stand to remain in the dream. afterward i have a pounding, almost migraine-like headache for a while that eventually fades. that's anecdotal but it's 100% my true experience, so mak......   1 reply

As far as I know—though I’m in no way a professional—pain in dreams is considered rare and an indication of poor mental health. How “real” the pain feels more so depends on the person, but not much is known due to how difficult dreams are to study. It's really interesting to hear people have nightmares where they themselves get hurt or killed. Usually my nightmares are just watching people I care about being hurt or dying or me accidentally killing them. Yes, it can feel very painful, not physically I accidentally watched an episode of Ito Junji, and Alice in the Wonderland anime (Halloween night), and then that night I had a bizarre dream about being munched by one of my extremely delulu strict school teachers.
