Maybe it's because I've been a fan of anime my whole entire life and grew up with all the "elitist anime" or maybe it's because i started reading bl mangas pre 2020 and got to enjoy the gems 2018-2019 gave us in terms of bls but wow y'all eat up straight up shit.
As long there's a toxic ml with a small head and a weirdly proportioned body y'all will read anything. Look at all these bls coming out since 2020 and the killing stalking craze (even though that story is straight up not a bl as bl is a ROMANCE subgenre) it's always the same old plot, at this point it's not even tropes being reused over and over again its straight up the same fucking plot.

Now don't get me wrong, shitty BLS have always existed and so has dark romance but now it's too fucking much, every single new bl is the same, it's like the genre became"fast fashion" and authors are trying to capitalize on the"dark romance" craze ITS SO GODDAMN BORING. If you're going to write dark romance at least make it interesting, make it unique (example: interview with the vampire).
I'm tired on clicking on stories rated 9.5+ only to be met with the most dog shit Wattpad type story. RATE STUFF ACCORDINGLY. Idc how much you enjoyed a story your personal rating and how good a story actually is can be separated.

Say it louder. lol This goes beyond BL stories. Just read one with 9.7 rating and the ML is annoying as shit. Totally understand what you mean by toxic ML. It's almost expected at this point. Unfortunately, that's the kind of thing that sells. Like, if a story were 2 love interests, the angry and toxic one is way more likely to win in the end with a simple redemption arch or a dumb excuse for why they were acting like a man child. As they say "Same shit, different toilet..." haha I wish there was a separate rating system on plot alone. I've found great stories with okay-ish rating because the artwork was too "unique" compared to conventional manga/manhwa art.

One of my favorites bls has a low rating because the art style is unique ☹ bl fans are not really fan of art as a medium i guess. The moment someone strays from the manhwa style it's over...i don't understand why people rate a story they haven't even read solely on the art style tho

As you’ve said art has became a fast fashion. Authors try to capitalise on the current market instead of writting genuine stories. Most readers don’t consume content mindfully and hacpve zero capacity to critically think about the manhwa they’re reading.
Nah the secret to the ratings is the percentage of 1 and 2 stars. Ratings really can't be that trusted, I wouldn't dismiss them completely, but checking out comments are a much better bet.
Checking the comments is a 50/50 depending on how well received that weeks chapter is + you can get spoiled easily ☹

I get that but even those stories usually are way more diverse with plots especially the more popular ones, the sauce of the story is the same but literally everything else changes from story to story and also while the mls can be toxic you won't see one being a straight up rapist
