I currently have five dogs, a cat, a bird, and two tanks of fish. Since you don't have previous experience with animals I would suggest an animal that doesn't need training (potty training, tricks, etc.). Therefore, I would suggest fish that are easy to maintain, such as some guppies or barbs, or a small rodent that is low maintenance.
