It's because queer media often focuses on the romance while normal media with queerbait often has a good story that carries it and the bait is just a lil spice dropped in. I think its a mix of letting your imagination do the trick, a forbidden love and mostly the promiscuity of the unknown. Not knowing if your imagination plays with you or not if you are reading the signs of romance correctly is always better than having the writer hold you by the hand and tell you "these people are in love".
