I used to read "trash books" on the tram and one of those had hardcore smut scenes.
Totally fine reading in public. Sometimes it was unbearable tho because they were horribly written and I had to hold back my laughter.
What i can't do is read smutty webcomics in public. Tried that once and I'll never do it again. I didn't even want to see that so ......
