The holocaust had a predecessor - The Herero and Nama genocide.
It is often referred to as the forgotten genocide and it was completely unacknowledged by Germany until 2021 (keep in mind this happened between 1904 and 1908 so it took them over a century to acknowledge it).
Many believe that the ideologies of this period really 'inspired' Hitler.
