I'd guess it has a lot to do with reader's personal connection to the themes. there aren't a whole lot of people relatively who have had someone close to murdered by serial killers or in direct relation to organized crime but just about everyone in the world knows someone who has been saed so it becomes more directly triggering. is it hypocritic......
