"It's just fiction"
I have seen this argument used for lot of things actually. One of its counter argument is:
"But the media we consume affects us and how we perceive on that subject"
"then it's your fault isn't it?"
"No but why is author publishing [insert something problematic] in their works"
"But its you- Yadayada yk how it goes
Fast majority will call it bs when it's used against troupes like rape/abuse/pedophilia etc
Does it only NOT work when it revolves around topic of SA but it does when it's something Illogical?
If we can't use the same argument for every troupe so when is it actually applicable if you do use it. When the series contains something problematic? Illogical? Illegal...?
If you don't agree to any of "its just fiction" arguments share your thoughts as well!

I think the problem isn't the usage of immoral or illegal tropes like rape, abuse, CP etc
It's the way you portray those topics. If you signify those cases as normal and acceptable then it's a shitty and disgusting take, but if someone uses them to spread awareness on the topic of show how bad it actually is, then it's not a problem.

I think works of fiction don't implant the problematic behavior in the reader, but the reader may see it and have it reinforce their prior beliefs. If you don't have a preference towards the ideas presented before looking at them, you will most likely reject them.
