Uke looks are always below the top why?

Usually tops looks are more extravagant and the bottoms are more bland so it's easier for straight women to self insert. Well that's how it originally was at least. Yeah it's kinda weird, because they're often drawn prettily but then other characters will call them plain/ugly/not good enough for the top? It's like the authors are trying to have it both ways by having an MC that's both nice to look at and a relatable audience surrogate.
