why is sl*very common in fantasy?
I only censored slavery because idk what bots moderate this godforsaken site (jk)
my running theories are
- author is racist (in A LOT of cases)
- white-knight/savior complex for the MC to “save” the slave
- a plot point for the MC to be a liberated slave, to “earn” their freedom- making it a “cool/tragic backstory”
- P*rn Σ(  ̄□ ̄||)
like- very rarely do series actually dismantle the system of slavery and when they do it’s like- a minor plot point? at least in my experience.
I need more *fantasy* authors to condemn slavery dawg- don’t go and buy a milf with animal ears.. don’t avoid an orc because of the status they were ASSIGNED how about you intercept a shipment of PEOPLE and start an underground railroad like the GOAT Harriet Tubman. if that’s “too hard” go use ur excalibur or whatever to abolish the trafficking syndicate or somethin fr. don’t just accept it?? OR- EVEN EASIER- DON’T INCLUDE IT?
I swear to god if y’all comment some shit like “it’s good for the economy” or “well historically-“ bruh we supposed to LEARN from history, not write weird fanfics about buying slaves.
(I hope to engage in discussions- not arguments but i should lower my standards/expectations)

One it fits with the general medieval setting of most fantasy stories, two it's taking the whole power imbalance thing people get off on to it's furthest conclusion with the person literally owning them, and three the practice of slavery has different connotations to different cultures. For a lot of countries there is a d......
