Here U Are is finally on Webtoon but their names are in korean!?! Like wtf WHO IS HYEONHO, WHO TF IS HYEONHO. THIS IS SO UPSETTING, some ppl will know them as their korean names and will think that Here U Are is a manhwa (korean) rather a manhua (Chinese). Idk it feels so wrong, it feels like those tiktokers rebranding Chinese cultures/trends as something like Japanese or Korean to be more appealing towards the general public.
Idk maybe I'm overreacting a bit because I've been a fan of this story for so long but it's really just so upsetting to think that someone might stumble across the story and won't know Yuyang and LiHuan like I,and a lot of people who are fans, did. And as someone said, all cultural references will be lost. ╥﹏╥

WHAT !!! Its in the Webtoon now??? And they even changed Yuyang's name too... Hyeonu doesn't even suit him at all, not even a bit.... -_-
omg Yang bestie how are you
HIIII! Not good, I'm upset by the translations BUDBDJSBS as yuyang's number one fan I died a little when someone commented on Webtoon "Who's yang yang?"
╥﹏╥
Oml i saw it absolutely heartbreaking fr
"who's yangyang" YANGYANG doesnt deserve this nonsense smhmh
I think it might be because webtoon only does korean adaptations, so maybe they're just translating like a korean translationg or something?? if that makes sense.. Honestly though they should've just kept it in its mother tongue.. it's not that difficult and much more respectful..
Yes! From what I know they are translating from the Korean scans so half of me gets it but the other half is disappointed bc in all honesty I just can't wrap around the concept of changing their names ╥﹏╥
Like is it really hard to just type the Chinese names instead of creating a whole new other name plus this happens to most manhuas so as a fan it really is hell out here BDJDNDJBD
WHAT THE FUCK??? Naur this is so not it man, I'm not having it
Why the fuck can't I comment on w*btoon?
D Jun doesn't deserve this, xenophobia sucks!
This is ridiculous. I hate when platforms change the names. It always feels disrespectful to the story's origins. English speakers don't need to be babied. If they can learn to say sauerkraut, then they can learn to say Lihuan and Yuyang. If they can love Korean names, they can love Chinese names too. The story can stand on it's own anyway. It doesn't need to be masked as a Korean story.
What the fuck
that honestly disgusts me as a chinese and korean person. it’s so repulsive to see chinese stuff constantly being rebranded as korean or japanese. it’s weird bc you don’t see it happening as often for other cultures, and it’s almost a daily occurrence for chinese stuff.
i’m not sure if they mistranslated but it would suck to leave the impression that Here U Are is a Korean Manhwa. it takes away from chinese representation and overall is harmful towards chinese people. i wish more people are aware of how amazing chinese books are.
RIGHT!? Why does society normalize rebranding of Chinese culture so much. They call Japan, Korea, and China as the 'big 3 of Asia' yet it seems like all China recieves is sinophobia and racism. Chinese culture is as great as any other cultures and obviously has a lot of meaning behind it so rebranding and changing something so significant such as their names is immensely disrespectful.
Plus if they're already using a foreign name why couldn't they just put the original ones that was given by the author (/TДT)/
yep, not only is this contributing to the misrepresentation of chinese culture, it also takes away gay chinese representation.
the whole rebranding trend literally makes me go insane, and part of me wants to disown my korean heritage because i’m growing discontent due to the unfairness.
Censorship, especially gay representation, already sucks in china and it's maddening to know that webtoon is cont
Censorship, especially gay representation, already sucks in china so DJUN most likely fought a lot just to be able to release their work and it's maddening to know that webtoon flushed all of that hardship because of their rebranding. And it's not like DJUN requested it to be changed bc why would they??
Your Korean heritage is just as important as your Chinese heritage! The issue most likely towards society itself and not a specific group of people so I think you should still be proud of it ^^ plus koreans also faces racism too, despite people's likeness towards them. Which is also maddening.
