I don’t get why there are tons of shojo mangas/manhwas that have tan mls yet a lot of these same manhwas also have tan mc deemed as ugly but once they turn white they suddenly become ‘pure’ and ‘beautiful’ and ‘lovable Also genuine question cuz I didn’t watch or read one piece, why/how did robin go from tan to white? It’s a genuine question and in no way trying to attack anyone, I’m simply lacking information and seeking it
Since early Japan (before 710 BC) there have been royality and nobility therefore, lower classes as well. Often nobles would stay inside not needing to leave their homes while the lower classes worked outside in the sun causing them to become tan. colorism is everywhere its not really shocking information of why people do it in fiction as well, such as stereotypes of being tan more rough and masculine and white more deemable and feminine if you get what I mean. this is a deeper issue that cant be explained necessarily so easily of why colorism is rooted so deeply in society and how it affect...... 1 reply
Reposting my answer cuz I replied to wrong comment ;-; idk what these people are talking about. If you look at old color spreads, she had paler skin. the anime mistakenly made her skin tan. They changed it in the timeskip to match the manga. And oda said in a q&a that her real world nationality equivalent would be Russian 1 reply
