I theory is when a series is popular, authors would work harder to reach deadlines and do lots of stuff to satisfy their fans. The feeling would only intensify due to popularity I guess until they are too exhausted to continue further causing them to go on hiatus for their own mental and/or physical health.
Also, when a series is popular people want to know what the authors go going on, I guess it’s human nature to find out why people think the way they do and why they do things, like what’s the reason for this and that in the plot, which in some cases they inadvertently stumble upon some problematic views the author may have on their socials like Islamophobia for example because their environment perpetuates bigoted ideas about Muslims and if you’ve never seen the world you’re gonna believe the people closest to you.
There’s no excuse for the nonces though.
