am I being mean?

was swimming with my friend today. One of her goals is to dive and touch the bottom of the deep end of the pool, around 9 ft. Shes a smoker so she cant control her breathing very well. Everytime she tries to swim down, she floats back up. She never makes it past 3 ft below surface. She's been very confused how to control her breathing so she can sink down properly and touch the bottom.

I havent the courage to tell her scientifically fat is less dense than water so someone with a significant amount of it will float on water and it isnt her breathing that is the problem......

Just tell her to release the air she's holding in and her body will sink. Body fat is not the problem here, you ARE mean. reply

What you’re saying is bullshit, fat people can dive. It’s more difficult for them for variety of reasons that are more related to general health. Did you never think to Google it and just made up shit? 2 reply

Well idk how's physically your friend but i'm pretty sure being skinnier wont change a thing. I've always been average weight~slightly underweight and i never succeeded to dive aswell. I also don't know much about the breathing thing but i do have a lot of struggles with breathing while swimming. reply
