is it ok to separate art from artist?
this is mostly about music artists, but this also applies to everything that requires creativity (movies, art, writing, etc.)
there are many extremely problematic people out there who make some GOOODD music, but i often feel conflicted on whether or not i should listen to them. take kanye for example, he genuinely makes amazing songs, but he's also a white supremacist and neo-n@zi. i don't listen to him anymore since i don't fw that, but there are some that still support/defend him.
some people believe it is possible to appreciate the artistic work separately from the artist's personal life or actions, while others feel that supporting a problematic artist may condone or enable their behavior. ultimately, it's a personal decision and can depend on various factors, including the severity of the artist's problematic actions and individual beliefs.
so im just asking this question to see answers from different people.
For me it depends on the severity of what they did. I'll listen to the music of someone who's just problematic online (jay park, doja cat etc.) but I draw the line at listening to the music of people who are literal abusers.
