"penis envy" is a term coined in the Victorian era... or by Freud anyway, but it was during a time when women had no power and independence and possibility to take care of themselves in general and had to be attached to a man (husband, father, brother, uncle...) to even be able to survive in society. So yeah... women envied men... for their freedom......
