What is your take on fiction equals reality discourse? Do you agree or not agree.

For you who agree, does it apply as well to other type of fiction (e.g., horror/gore/violent type of media), and what's your take on violent video games cause violence?

For you who disagree, what makes you disagree, and what's your take on fictional censorship?

Let's discuss, I am genuinely wanted to know both side of the story. Most of the discourse about this topic heavily centered around fictional porn, and I wonder about how does it apply to other type of fictional media

i think its more about fiction affecting the person exposed to it, not necessarily the reality. thats why i actually dont agree with fictional censorship in general, because first of all, the genre itself isn't harmful. it's just a form of art, something invented by the imagination and imagination or thoughts dont harm others, actions do. banning a...... 1 reply

I disagree. Fiction doesn't equal reality. The characters are just puppets manipulated according to the author's will no matter how real they seem. I hope those that read violent or sexual content enjoys the content but knows that in fiction, the author's will is what you see but in real life, there's no such thing. fiction doesn't equal reality but it's still inspired by reality. fiction cannot exist without reality. fiction affects reality, more specifically, the people who consume it (it's literally the same thing with people being inspired by something nonfiction, except the thing/inspiration is made by the creator's imagination). just because it's not vi...... reply

I personally think that fiction can affect reality. For example, if a kid is playing super gory video games every day for years, seeing violent movies and shows won't affect them much because they're used to it. They're basically desensitized to it, as they've seen it several times before and now fail to see the severity of it. So like when kids st...... 1 reply
