its bc some neurodivergent people like myself cant tell the tone see how "i hate you /j" and "i hate you /srs" can have completely different meanings? (/j means joking and /srs means serious) tone indicators were made because its hard for some neurodivergent people to pick up on social cues so theyre used to avoid miscommunication
