Is reading BL bad? Does it fetishize gay men?

Does it really generally fetishize gay men? I thoroughly understand that a lot of BL material portray sex heavily especially on the Yaoi genre. A more typical position as to why reading BL is bad is because it fetishizes gay men. Does it really fetishize them? Is the fandom that toxic? (I have a vague idea about this, but what I find problematic is the shipping of irl people as well as the disregard on the normalization of rape and dubcon.) Hence, Is reading BL bad?

I read BL and have been invested of it since 2017. Now, I've been curious if this interest of mine in reading BL is really healthy. I acknowledge that like other stories in the market (whether it be gay or straight), it is still just a fiction. So, I am curious if reading BL is really fetishizing gay men and if people should stop reading and making them in general. thanks.

Bl is a romance genre, it's not inherently sexual so no, reading it is not fetishizing gay men. Alot of people forget that fetishizing someone means viewing them as if they are a sexual object, like for example shipping two random gay men just because they are gay, calling them "real life bl" etc all examples of actual fetishization. Yaoi is essentially gay porn so obviously it’s fetishizing gay men. My advice to everyone who reads it is that consume yaoi in moderation, branch out to other genres and don't read too much porn and get addicted to it when you're not even a grown adult. I think the danger lies in people not recognizing or acknowledging the fact that yaoi is ultimately porn. I've had people on this very site tell me that it is art or a story when I argued that yaoi is porn and that all porn fetishizes sex, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
