Do yall remember the song "freak the freak out" and about the singing competition with the blonde and brunette?

So I was watching the video and I was wondering. when Tori started to sing with her disguise(?) on, why were the girls confident like they are hearing her real voice? But when Tori started to take off her disguise they started to worry like she started to sing differently/better while changing. I don't know I guess they thought ONLY pretty people are talented or ONLY pretty people can be win?
