Hmm good question. I personally think it's not necessarily the act of reading bl but the manner and mindset with which you'd read bl.
When a fujo reads BL, they are reading about a demographic that is not them, which is great if done well, harmful if not. And more often it's the latter. Sadly, BL is mostly catering to the female audience, so there......
