It's not a slur, but it is offensive depending on who and how you're Using it. Many people used it on native Americans, hence why the word around them is a super sensitive topic, and btw your comment was beyond insensitive in a way, from what I saw, I think they were trying to point out the way you used it and took it as you calling her a savage be......   1 reply

There are two definitions to savage, the modern one and the traditional one. Savage is now used to describe someone that is bold, and still has a high self worth and confidence despite the shit that was thrown at them. I mean, it can be and has been used in a pejorative and derogatory manner to cause real and lasting harm, so perhaps using it so lightly isn't exactly wise... savage isnt a slur but it depends on how you use it and the context of it. for example, calling someone "savage" for the color of their skin or because they have a mental illness is offensive but if someone is calling another person a "savage" because they made a snarky comeback then its okay. basically, context and the way you use it matters   reply
