People who can't treat their dogs like family should be banned from owning one

So my aunt's family has 2 dogs and one is very sick. I asked them to bring him to the vet the moment he started being lethargic and vomitting and not eating nor drinking. This went on for 3 days until they finally brought him.

He's distemper positive and the vet they went to said he might not make it. It broke my heart. What's even worst is they don't care

They said the meds are too expensive and they already paid for the distemper kit and check up so they just brought him home without buying him meds, saying might as well just let him pass. I don't understand why they don't treat their dogs as family despite them being kind to people.

I kept convincing them that there's hope and he'll make it, just be patient and get him some meds. They're financially well-off so I don't understand why they refuse to spend money for their pets. I don't really get it. And I can't do anything about it coz I don't have the means. When I get my pay next week I'm gonna buy him meds myself if they really would not. I feel so helpless. I have 2 dogs and they haven't completed their vaccines yet so I also need to bring them soon.

Gosh I hate myself for not speaking up to them because of all the things they've helped my family through, and because they're genuinely kind to us. But I can't take this neglect they're doing to their dogs. It breaks my heart and I hate it that I can't do anything about it right now
