because its bad representation, most of the times the weak main characters are women or gay men (mostly the ones who take the bottom role) which feeds into stereotypes which we are trying to abolish so it is not something to be appreciated   2 reply

Well, a weak character simply can't pull off the same things that a strong character can. Main characters are supposed to be relatable to the reader, so when that character is always weak, it kind of sucks. to be honest, these comments are just showing me why there are so many OP Mary Sues or Gary Stues out there — because most people will drop a series if the main character isn't immediately strong. i've seen it happen many many times. i'd rather have a weak MC that grows as a person than have an always powerful protagonist, but there are barely ......   1 reply

Because people like to self-insert themselves and why would they want a mc that's a bit too realistic and weak? Honestly, I usually love weak and flawed main characters, cause it means there's room for character development.
