I found this on Google.

"Yuri unwittingly dragged him through the Russian tradition of getting engaged. They went to a jewelry store and bought wedding rings - it says so on the receipt. They stood in front of a cathedral and choir and exchanged the rings while having a heart-to-heart. Of course he THINKS they’re engaged.

But they aren’t. Yuri meant it meant it when he called them good luck charms. That’s why he was slack-jawed when Viktor announced their engagement - because Yuri didn’t propose to him.

It was a joke. Kubo literally said in a post-series interview she made sure to research that wedding rings didn’t have to imply a wedding or engagement. She said she intended for them to represent being on a sports team together. They’re ACCESSORIES, not a symbol of romantic love and wanting to spend the rest of your lives together."

Who cares what they say? In their universe they're married now and living happily ever after.

Yeah true, it’s just sad if it really comes from the creators, especially cause I think the anime is widely known as being a lgbtq+ one. But in the end everyone is free to believe what they want.

I read the OG Tumblr and it honestly just feels like someone's rant about the fandom. I don't think this is a reliable source by a long stretch.
