help w life
Okay this is my first time asking for some advice on here, and sharing a bit of my personal life on here. Anyways, recently i got a job at a donut place and i decided to do the night shift. Its a 24hr workplace so ill be working from 10:50 pm to 5 am........The lobby for the place is going to be closed and the drive-thru is the only thing that's going to be open. The thing is my parents wont let me keep the job and they want me to quit for the main reason that imma girl. i feel like a fucking loser at my age(20) staying at home all the damn time doing nothing. I want some money so I can move out and to go back to school. oh btw I cant drive either. i failed my driver test twice and the DMV isn't open atm so I cant really take it rn. i was thinking maybe my dad can drive for me cuz he usually goes to sleep at around 11:30 pm....and to pick me up at the end of work. He complains all the time at home that he's bored cuz he doesn't have work bc he got laid off cuz of covid........buttt like I said he didn't want me to get the job. Should I just use uber? Should I quit the job? Should I get pepper spray? ughhh im kinda nervous cuz I have anxiety and I don't like sharing my personal life.....but I need advice... ╥﹏╥

Alright.....all is resolved. I just switched to a morning position and they were fine w it. Thanks again guys!
Is there public transportation where you are? My advice is a bit different since I think given your situation, it's important to be able to get to work on time by yourself. Ubers are very expensive, so not ideal for saving money. It depends on the place but most will fire you if you are late to multiple shifts or miss even one shift. I think you should spend some time applying to jobs where you're sure you can get there and back safely and on time. Since you're living with your parents, taking a job their strongly against will make things harder on you at home (I also live with my parents). It's probably not reasonable to expect your dad to pick you up after your shift since then he'd only be sleeping 6 hours. Either way, it's really good and admirable that you are trying to do this. I'm cheering you on!
thanks for the suggestion guys! ill see wat I can do
Hey there! I recommend that you do as you really want, there's no harm in having extra money in your pockets. As I am a overly cautious person myself I highly recommend pepper spray, tasers, and a personal safety alarm. Depending on where you live you can obtain these items legally. Or find alternatives such as petstores that might sell dog mace if you are unable to order it offline due to your regions laws. I do not recommend knives as there are size limits and there is a possibility that if you do not know how to use it, it could be taken from you godforbid such an event occur. There are police grade flashlights that are heavy for hitting and get the job done as well so I recommend that as well. As for your transportation I think you should convince your dad as extra precaution. Ubers are good but carry risks as well. All in all I know the struggle of self defense and working late be safe and check in with a friend or family member thru text or call if somethings ever amiss
I agree with Sterling (and I'll remember your advice as well, thanks ^^).
Also, if you have the possibility and it's safe enough, you could use public transportations. But you should always write someone (preferably your parents since you live with them) when you leave your house/ enter your workspace/ leave your workspace/ switch trains. So someone will always know where you are.
And you don't have to feel bad for still living at home. It's a good way to save money and is comfortable. If you earn enough you can chip in for rent or household expenses. That way you won't just be "mooching off" your parents.
I wish you good look in your decisions and have fun at work!
