Really depends what part of your body you're piercing, and where you get it done.
I pierced my ear myself, and it didn't really hurt, but it did sting for a bit afterwards.
I got my lip pierced professionally & they used some kind of spray, it numbed my whole lip, so i didn't feel anything at all. But there was some discomfort for the next 2 or so ......
