quick question
(question for french people, or any person who is familiar with it and knows about it. I just need some answers, thank you.. )
So, I'm living in France for some years now and I did hear a lot in my family the word "PD" (I believe it's actually "pédé", but if I'm wrong, please correct me) for describing gay people and it sounded extremely rude to me.. for this reason I have never used it, but I hear it often and I got genuinely curious if it's an offensive, derogatory word, (like the f-word in English for instance), or it's just a simple/respectful/positive word for gay people..
And I did google it first, but it didn't really help me..
Not french but I can tell you for certain that based on the context "PD"/"pédé" would be short for "pédéraste". The English equivalent in definition would be "pederast", a word that no one uses anymore in favor of the broader "pedophile", but the equivalent in usage would probably be the f-slur.
