I agree wholeheartedly with what yarola85 said. All of those steps are solid. And if, indeed, those messages were just awkward attempts to talk to you, then enacting these steps won't hurt anyone. They will keep you safe, which is of the utmost importance.
Overall, though, as a thought for life as a whole concerning situations like these, I hope ......
