Omegaverse
All right, so a bunch of my friends have been confused about omegaverse, so I'm just going to post this here in case anyone else is confused as well. Feel free to add or correct in the comments!
OMEGAVERSEヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~
FIRST GENDER: All people in the omegaverse are betas until their secondary gender is identified during puberty.
SECONDARY GENDER: Alpha or omega characteristics that are identified throughout the stages of puberty. Identified betas have no active secondary gender. Secondary gender identification can range from just ten years old to early or middle twenties. People who find out later are called “late bloomers”.
SYMBOLS: Alpha = ɑ / Omega = Ω / Beta = β
Genders/Sub-Classes/Pheromones
OMEGA: A secondary gender that can be assigned to either a man or a woman. It entails a uterus, estrus cycles, and pheromones. Omegas are often looked down upon because of their rarity and for the social illusion that an omega is a “natural-born seducer” or someone “born to bear children/to engage in promiscuous sexual acts of any sort”. As a result of this treatment, many omegas are ostracized and end up in lower income situations. Both men and women can conceive. Omega men have a uterus in addition to beta male genitalia.
ALPHA: A secondary gender that can be assigned to either a man or a woman. It entails beta male genitalia, ruts, and pheromones. Alphas make up a small percentage of the population, but are regarded as untouchable. (In comparison with omegas, who are subjects of social stigma) Alphas are held to a high standard, socially, intellectually, physically, or otherwise. They are praised for their prominent pheromone output and tendency to achieve high social positions or status.
BETA: A regular human. Genitalia match what is normal for our society. Betas produce no pheromones, and nor can they detect them. (Though some can. This detail is up to the author, but the rest of it is pretty much set) Betas take up middle to higher social class, relative to their “average” biological disposition. Betas have no heat period or rut, though beta females have a period every month, similar to the omegas monthly heat cycle.
RECESSIVES: A class of alphas or omegas in which the pheromonal output is noticeably less than your average alpha or omega. Recessive alphas can be criticized for their lack of dominance or presence, while this may be a blessing in disguise for omegas. Recessives have less intense heat cycles/ruts, in addition to requiring less powerful suppressants. Recessive alphas have smaller genitalia, and in some cases, impotency. Recessive omegas have smaller uteruses that are much higher up than others.
DOMINANTS: There are also such things as dominant omegas or dominant alphas. This special category identifies the fact that these people possess pheromonal output that is noticeably stronger than your average alpha or omega. In an alphas case, this can be more conducive in terms of establishing dominance among other alphas. (Making him the leader of the pack) In an omegas case, this can be fatal because it ups the chance of assault significantly. Dominants have more intense heat cycles/ruts, in addition to requiring more expensive and more powerful suppressants. Dominant omegas can be so affected by their heat, that some can even top their alpha pair. (though this situation is rare)
PHEROMONES: Classified by secondary gender, alphas and omegas produce pheromones. Identified as a sort of smell emanating from alpha or omega, they are completely unique to the person. Though it has been determined that alpha pheromones smell more rich and earthy, in comparison to omega pheromones that may smell flowery or sweet. Omega pheromones are generally used for seduction or enticement for an alpha, and an alpha can use his pheromones to dominate others or reinforce his position. This analysis has usually resulted in discrimination against omegas because of their phermones.
*REMEMBER, THIS IS ALL GENETIC DISPOSITION
Heats/Suppressants
ESTRUS CYCLES: Estrus cycles or better known as heat cycles, occur once a month for about a week for any omega, male or female alike. Similar to the beta woman’s period, it is a routine occurrence. At this time, pheromonal output skyrockets, in an instinctive attempt to entice an alpha for breeding. Many heats can be repressed with the help of suppressants, but in a dominants case, it may require more expensive/stronger drugs. If a suitable suppressant cannot be found, then an omega spends their heat in isolation, usually engaging in self-sexual release. If a suitable suppressant cannot be found for a dominant omega, pheromones also output can be up to doubly as intense as a regular omegas heat. The opposite is applied for a recessive. A heat cycle can also be triggered by an influx of alpha pheromones. But any omega's heat can be nullified by having sex with an alpha.
RUT: [Usually] A rare occurrence for an alpha. Most ruts happen from around every two to six months to once every couple years. Specific suppressant drugs are developed for an alphas rut, though most can be ineffective due to the sheer amount of pheromones and desire to mate that is released. An alphas rut intensifies pheromonal output and sexual desire up to three times the amount an omega can produce. Many alpha ruts can be extremely dangerous, and anyone within 25 feet of an alpha in a rut could be in danger, no matter the gender/secondary gender. (Though most are focused on omegas) Most alphas spend their rut in isolation in excruciating pain to prevent accidental assault, mating, or bonding. An alphas rut can also be triggered by an omega's pheromones.
SUPPRESSANTS: Suppressants are drugs specifically developed for repressing omega/alpha pheromones. There are also varying types of suppressant intensities to help quell pheromonal output more effectively. Though in a dominants case, regular suppressants might not work, so they may require specifically designed suppressant drugs.
Other Relevant Information/Terminology
BOND: A bond is formed between an alpha and omega when an alphas bites the nape of the omegas neck during sexual intercourse. When the omega is in heat, the alpha bites the nape of the omegas neck to solidify their relationship in a physical manner. If an omega is bitten, then the omegas pheromones can be smelled by no one but the alpha pair. Nothing really changes for the alpha. Though as a downside, some bonds can be formed carelessly if an alpha is blindly enticed into doing it if an omega in heat is nearby. This is a very large reason as to why omegas are stigmatized.
FATED PAIR: A fated pair is said to be an extremely rare occurrence. It is when an alpha and an omega feel an undeniable pull towards each other in order to create the most genetically compatible pair possible. It is to some people referred to as the representation of Love ushered together by the universe itself. Like the red string of fate for example.
POPULATION PERCENTAGES: Alphas make up around 10% of the population. Betas make up around 80% of the population. Omegas make up roughly 9% of the population. (this can also fluctuate based on the author, but this is the most common population percentage used)
BIRTH CONTROL: Birth control in the omegaverse is the same in this world. Condoms, birth control pills, etc. But if it is done without protection, chances of pregnancy skyrocket if an omega is in heat or an alpha is in a rut. They say if an omega is in heat, chances increase to about 90%, while if it is an alpha in a rut, chances increase to 100%.
KNOTS: A knot is formed when an alpha ties themselves to the omega physically during sexual intercourse. This ensures their semen reaches the omega’s (or a beta woman’s) uterus, and these ejaculations can last up to 30 minutes. This ensures a 100% chance of pregnancy with healthy offspring.
