The emptiness

I first got into the yaoi genre much like the majority of other people did. I started from the classics; the bittersweet, maybe not-so-ethical, shoujo-like BLs. And I miss those. (If you remove the not-so-ethical part) I just want the days of my squealing back, whenever the obvious bottom would be all in denial of his sexuality and lash out or whatever (again, I didn’t say the classics were immaculate - like, at all). The cliffhangers and the heartbreak and reconciliation- I miss it all. They were like gay shoujos, and if you’ve seen enough shoujos you just get bored. BLs, at first glance, were a misinterpreted view at same-sex (specifically m/m) relationships but had an odd and maybe politically incorrect charm to them. I’ve grown so desensitized to the pandering within the industry of the genre (omegaverse, mpreg (JUST WRITE A STRAIGHT STORY FFS), unnecessary and meaningless rape, etc just to name a few of the blantant pandering with no substance) and just want the old format to come alive again. (Not the super old BLs, those are crusty and downright porn-with-words, not to mention the art was usually grotesquely-drawn with a likelihood of 0 anatomical drawing experience from the authors) I do believe that many better titles are coming out that aren’t so god-awful. Even then, this is just a whiny shitpost about me complaining that I’m lonely and need to consume media of awkward gay boys discovering love and their sexuality. I guess.
